Fossil Falls

On the way back from Mount Whitney, we stopped at place called, Fossil Falls. Not a very popular destiantion...evidently but still pretty interesting. This archiological site is located in a field of volcanic rock. Many years ago, thousands of years ago there was water and as the name implies...a water fall. At some point indigenious peoples lived in the area using this impressive canyon area as a home. Although there is no water and completely barren, still a really great spot. After a mile or two on a dirt road, and as with most of our adventures, it was a bit hot. Hovered between 102 -104 degree's. I felt the rocks with my hand to see evaluate temperature for my pup. Sure enough, pretty dang hot. So he did not burn his paws, I put on the Muttluks for his feet. Once I put them on, took some getting used to and yes it was a bit comical. At one point when I was chuckling, he stopped and looked at me. I pretty sure he gave me a dirty look. ha! in any case, he got used to them pretty fast and what a saving grace those were. Last thing I wanted is for him to burn his paws.

We did not go into the canyon area there primarily because we weenied-out due to the heat. As with other places, I would like to come back and take the full two mile or so hike to check it out.
