About fifteen miles from Ridecrest is a place called, Robber's Roost. Basically and outcropping of three granite rocky hills. The history is that is the 1870's, a bandit named Tiburcio Vasquez and his gang would hang out in those rocky area's waiting for stagecoaches to pass by. Many were loaded with gold and silver perfect for would be thieves.
We used the map provided by the museum. Well, the directions were a bit off and we ended up on the back side of these inselberg's. Got a bit sketchy on this two track unmaintained dirt road. We finally had to call it and go find another way. Funny thing is, my sister rembered another route she took years ago. So, we went down a marked aqueduct road (LA2) and sure enough, we found the correct entrances to the area.
Once there, I took out the metal detector (Nerd alert!). Obeying all the BLM rules regarding detecting, we searched around and found....wait for it...two nails and a coke can! Still good fun.
