We set out for the Trona Pinnacles. This area is where they filmed several scenes for a Planet of the Apes movie. i did not know which one so I sent a text to the only person who I knew would, my son. He did not dissapoint and told me it was the Tim Burton version with Mark Wahlberg. My sister told me many locals from Ridgecrest were in the movie dressed as ape extras. I bet they roasted being out here. You have to drive off the main road for about five miles. It is a BLM site, so it is well maintained. Once again...112 degree's!!
Lucious stuck his head out the window and immediately got blasted with the heat. haha!!
I think it was a pretty interesting spot. Unfortunately, we did not hike around much. Next time.........maybe.
After the pinnacles, we ventured over to the the town of Trona. No disrepect to anyone living here but it is like a mad max dystopian area. Geez. A few large industrial facilities out there and thats about it. The town was named after a chemical used to make soda ash. At one time, in the hey day, this thriving metropolis in themiddle of nowhere had over seven thousand souls living here. Now, it is hovering around one thousand. If you are looking to find some reading material to help you sleep, look up Trona, California on your phone. Ugh.
